Walk and Talk

Physical moment with emotional healing

Walk and Talk Therapy

Walk and Talk Therapy is a form of counselling that takes place outdoors, combining the benefits of movement with traditional talking therapy.  Instead of sitting in a therapy room, or online, sessions are held whilst walking in nature, providing a relaxed and open environment for self-reflection and discussion.

Many people find it easier to express their thoughts and emotions while walking side by side, rather than sitting face-to-face.  The natural setting can also help reduce stress and anxiety, making it an excellent alternative to traditional counselling.

BENEFITS OF

Walking and Talking

Walk and Talk Therapy offers multiple benefits for both the mind and body:

  • Boosts Mood: Walking releases endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” chemicals, helping to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
  • Enhances Mental Clarity: Movement can help process emotions and thoughts more easily, reducing feelings of being “stuck.”
  • Physical Well-being: Walking improves circulation, lowers blood pressure, and supports overall health.
  • Connection with Nature: Being outdoors promotes relaxation, reduces stress, and encourages mindfulness.
  • Less Formal Setting: Walking side by side can feel more comfortable than traditional face-to-face therapy.

The Route

You can choose from three scenic routes for your Walk and Talk session:

  • Brooklands Park, Worthing: A peaceful green space with lakeside views.
  • Lancing Perch to Shoreham: A refreshing seaside walk along the beach.
  • Splashpoint Leisure Centre to Grand Avenue, Worthing: A scenic route along the promenade.

If you would prefer to walk an alternative route that may be special or relaxing to yourself, please do let us know.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, you are welcome to bring your dog, as long as they are well-behaved and do not distract from the session.

What happens if we see someone we know?

If someone we know stops to say hello, we can keep the interaction brief and continue walking. We can also discuss beforehand how you would like to handle such situations.

What if it rains?

The session is client-led, so if it rains, you can decide whether to proceed with the walk, reschedule, or switch to an online session.

What is the pace of the walk?

The pace will be set by you. If you need to slow down, pause, or sit, we will adapt accordingly.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking. If the weather is unpredictable, bringing a light jacket or umbrella is a good idea.

Where do we meet?

We will arrange a meeting place prior to the session. The session will always end at the same place it started.

Is walking and talking confidential?

Yes, confidentiality remains a priority, just as it would in a traditional counselling session. However, because we are in a public setting, there is a possibility of encountering other people. If this happens, we can briefly pause or adjust our conversation to maintain your privacy. Before our first session, we can also discuss how you would like to handle any situations where we may be overheard.

Are the fees the same?

Yes, the fees for Walk and Talk Therapy are the same as traditional counselling sessions. It also offers great value for money, as you not only receive professional support but also benefit from physical movement, the release of endorphins, and a greater sense of connection with nature—helping both your mind and body feel better.

Personal Responsibility

You are responsible for your own safety including incidents, accidents or injuries that may occur during the walk as well as before and after.
